• AGE OF COLLAPSE - Transmissions LP cover
The sophomore album by San Diego’s AGE OF COLLAPSE, Transmissions, wanders down a much darker path than their debut LP, Burden of Beast. The harshest human emotions are filtered through the cold indifference of machinery. Themes of misinformation, paranoia, disconnection, blurred realities, and by-products of technological progress are manifested in frantic tempo changes and a veritable wall of distortion. Weaving between blazingly fast metallic hardcore punk, and slow and dreary clean-channel post-hardcore passages, Transmissions is an unrelenting treatise against the confines of the digital age; an apocalyptic and bleak look at a looming future. Beautifully packaged with illustrations by Amanda Kazemi. Recorded at Rarefield Studios by Dan Maier and mastered at Mammoth Sound by Dan Randall. Limited marble rust vinyl limited to 100 copies, standard pressing on black vinyl. Comes with lyric insert and mp3 download card.
  • Portland, OR's underground crust miscreants NUX VOMICA unleash their Relapse Records debut and first full-length album in over 5 years. Blending the suffocating atmospherics of doom / sludge with the raw ferocity of black metal, punk and d-beat, NUX VOMICA construct an organic heaviness caught somewhere between Neurosis and His Hero Is Gone. Their self-titled LP is a 3 song, 40+ minute emotional odyssey into the depths of human darkness. A flawless combination of epic song structures with crushing melodies and colossal riffs with powerful dynamics, NUX VOMICA is a truly captivating listening experience that will appeal to fans of anything extreme.
  • 6 songs of raw energy by San Diego based d-beat rockers, KARBÖNITE Limited to 300 copies on blue/purple marble vinyl
  • This is the second full-length release from COUNTDOWN TO ARMAGEDDON, a 3-piece based in Seattle, WA whose sound originated in apocalyptic crust and progressed into more melodic, post-punk territories over the past eight years of their tenure. Thick layers of reverb and chorus-effected darkwave riffs, sometimes reminiscent of early KILLING JOKE or AMEBIX, weave in and out of the lines between punk, hardcore, and d-beat crust, while retaining a unique identity in each of the eight tracks on the album. Lyrically this album addresses the conflict between the artificial and natural worlds, and the struggle to preserve humanity in an increasingly digitized and bleak dystopian future. Through a reconnection to nature the path toward destruction can be altered, and thereby escaping the psychological constraints of the modern age. Recorded at Buzz or Howl Studios by Stan Wright (Arctic Flowers) in Portland, OR, and mastered by Jack Control (WB2D) at Enormous Door Studios in Austin, TX.

ORDER OF THE VULTURE returns with a release on Defector Records, "Death Mask." Death Mask features three songs from the newest recording session at the Ship. More Pitch Blackened Crust. Deathmask is loosely based around the Italian Teatro Grotesco most commonly associated with the writings of Pirandello from the 1920's. Their Nihilist anti-natural philosophies were a precursor to the Theatre of the Absurd. Highly recommended, check out their other releases on Aborted Society!

Decomposition, the second full-length by US / UK / German collective Cross Stitched Eyes, follows in the tradition of anarchist punk and demonised death rock (Rudimentary Peni, Amebix and Killing Joke). Embracing the many irrational and visceral shades of this style's darkest corners, the album decidedly rejects traditional copy-and-paste guidelines of musical conformity with a puncturing attitude. The harsher side of Cross Stitched Eyes derives directly from the band's artistic influences and its deconstructed presentation. Decomposition's leadoff track "We Follow" evokes reactions to seemingly unchanging lifestyles with a vitriolic diatribe. Others like "Animated Corpse" and "Earth's Defiant" display a lyrical depth seldom heard these days. At times benign, at others aggressive, Decomposition explores the complicated relationship between dark and light in a repulsive world filled with gloom. 12 new tracks recorded between 2010 and 2011 and mastered by Skott Brown of the Phantom Limbs.  Black vinyl, Skuld Releases version.

Re-release of their 2005 masterpiece! Ictus formed in 2004 in Galicia/Spain and deliver fucking excellent modern dark and epic Hardcorepunk. Besides showing definately similarities to Ekkaia, Tragedy or even Catharsis, they are a brand of their own! With 3 guitar players  and a hellish aggressive singer they manage to unleash such a wall of frustration and anger to leave me speechless when I first had a listen! Dark and heavy hardcore crust with undeniable hints to blackmetalmelodies + some ambiental parts and screaming political thoughts all over against those times we are living in today.... - this is the perfect soundtrack to fuck shit up! Co-production with Skuld Releases, In My Heart Empire on black vinyl w/ lyric insert.

After a fifteen year break to wise up and dry out, Portland's anarcho-punk legends RESIST are back and stronger than ever. Still anchored by original vocalist Tom Nims and guitar player Ward Youn, they have added new talent on bass and drums. While still distinctivelythe same fast and raw RESIST you remember from the old days, the song writing for this new material has greatly matured and is much more dimensional than anything before. The cover is a classic anarcho-punk fold out poster sleeve just like their last LP on Profane Existence. This record is being pressed on 100% recycled black vinyl because it's the right thing to do!

This is an amazing side project from members of Skarp, Wormwood and State of the Union (Joey's now in the Prids but who cares?). It features two drum kits going full force. Neurosis esque build ups into crazed noisy hardcore. Three vocalists, a wall of sound yet melodic. Comes in hand screened covers. The most DIY record I have done yet.
  • Finally the debut release by Seattle's own OCCULT SECRET SERVICE (OSS) makes its way onto vinyl in the 7" format. Influences range from the best of Scandinavian and Japanese hardcore, early UK metallic crust, and even some hints of early first wave black metal. Black vinyl on Rust and Machine Records.
  • Repress of this 2010 EP. Classic stuff! An exciting new band from the Southern California area—which I have had the pleasure of seeing a few times this year—that has really caught my eye and ears. Featuring a collection of members from Mala Sangre, The Homewreckers, and Svarta Tankar, this band has an early ‘80s sound that takes pieces from South America and Mexico and make it sound relevant today. Songs sung in Spanish are backed by a sonic push of lightly distorted guitar sounds that give the music a raw edge but hook you with their strong melody. It makes you want to just dance in the pit or pogo in your room. First time I heard the music, I got energized with excitement that I’m really going to have fun listening to this instead of the usual appreciation of music through anger. I can’t wait to see what more is in store from this foursome. –Donofthedead (Mundo Muerto, myspace.com/mundoxmuerto) (Razorcake)

FFour more songs of ultra-political punk rock that takes inspiration from classic 80's punk rock, ranging from Riot City to Crass to Discharge. With two male and one female vocalist, they hit their message home with a non-stop vocal barrage, directed against such poignant topics as religious intolerance, the senselessness of joining the military, police brutality, and western governments' complicity in genocide in the third world. Disrespect are comprised of veteran members of Minneapolis punk mainstains such as Misery, Civild Disobedience, Destroy and Pissed, Disrespect are rapidly making an inroad towards passing along their passion for punk and politics to the next generation.

Ex HOG members from Mexico City playing angry political crustpunk (lyrics in both Spanish and English). Musically they are heavy, down-tuned crust with growled vocals - pretty closely capturing the classic sounds of late 80's crust/punk crossover bands like DOOM and ENT. There is also a hint of the more modern, tuneful influences of TRAGEDY and friends which, coupled with a excellent recording quality, really makes for an exciting and not enitrely predicatble release. This is their first full length, hot on the heels of their great split CD with ALL SYSTEMS FAIL.

THIS IS FUCKING GREAT. an amazing and totally bleak and definitely their best (4th) LP from this finnish band, combining a more muted and moody take on DISFEAR-style rocked out guitar riffs, savagely shouted vocals ala’ VICTIMS, and then the dark and epic scope of NEUROSIS (and their slower, low end lumbering) , TRAGEDY (mood carrying guitar riffs and solos) ARTIMUS PYLE (bursting from all of that into wicked thrash) and their ilk. The Recording is crazy serious and megalithic, allowing the weight of the riffs to be literally oppressive and powerful then just clearing enough space for the band to blast fast thrashier parts. top knotch musician ship, the mood of the whole affair somber as it can get, and while this metallic influenced crust style is seems at times almost completely currently dismissed stateside / locally, if you like any of the five bands I just mentioned, buy this immediately. AWESOME.

With “Clandestine Abuse” the band’s intensity is captured on record, at long last. Since adding two additional members to the lineup, (the band started as guitar/drum duo) Northless has expanded on their original style of atmospheric sludgy metal and gone beyond the barrier that holds lesser bands back. This progression enabled Northless to break through into new territory and write truly exceptional songs, more focused, more dense. “Clandestine Abuse” might be one of the most misanthropic, angst-filled albums I’ve ever heard, but it never fails to instill a feeling of hope in the listener. A hope that a band can draw upon familiar influences and personal experiences, draw on them and combine them to create something that breaks the mold of slow & heavy music. Super heavy stuff, for fans of Neurosis, Eyehategod, etc!
