AGE OF COLLAPSE LPs are in! Distro Update 1/19/2012

We’ve gotten some new stuff in our distro! First and foremost, we finally have the AGE OF COLLAPSE Burden of Beast LPs in, and limited editions are ready to ship!  The screens came out rad on these, so grab one before they’re all gone, we only did 50 of ‘em.  Due to delays in the cassette plant, we are going to be shipping the cassette version that accompanies the Limited Editions separately, so as not to make people who pre-ordered wait any further.  We apologize for that, but it’s kind of out of our hands as what was supposed to be ready in mid December is going to press only now.  If anyone has a great recommendation for a cassette duplication vendor other than NAC we are all ears :) .

We will be running a sale from now until the end of January as we gear up for some new stuff.  Use the promo code “JAN2012” during checkout at our store and receive 15% off any order over $25.00.

We’ve taken over distribution of the NUX VOMICA – President is Dead 7″ (color vinyl) and the ORDER OF THE VULTURE – Death Mask 7″ from Defector Records.  We have limited quantities of these on hand, but they weren’t heavily distro’ed at the time, so pick em up!  Distros and stores get in touch for wholesale rates.  We are almost out of the NUX VOMICA – Embrace the Cycles EP and the ORDER OF THE VULTURE – Martyr for Nothing EPs are moving fast!  The MURDERESS LP is officially sold out and we will be repressing this year along with their forthcoming LP.  We also got in AGE OF COLLAPSE shirts and patches, MURDERESS patches, and ORDER OF THE VULTURE t-shirts!  All shirts are available in limited qtys of style and size, so check em out below!

Zen and the Art of Making Mixtapes

We have deployed all of the submissions we have received thus far to a drop point location, from which the mixtapes and discs will be transported to the punks in Aceh.  If you are wishing to send something directly, please email us at abortedsociety [at] hotmail [dot] com and we will let you know.  For those of you who have recently found out about the project and would like to continue to submit, we will accept further submissions until January 20th.  One caveat though, please don’t use this as an excuse to clear out your dusty tape collection.  We’d like to keep this personal if possible, and while it’s great you may have found a new home for that disheveled heap of tangled cassettes, it would be nice if these were intended for their recipients. First and foremost we’d like to personally thank each and every one of you who took the time to enter a submission.  We don’t have time to email all of you, but we have documented every single submission, and you can find images on this post or the one right before it to find yours to make sure it came in.  We had absolutely no idea how much support this would create, and were completely blown away by the massive amounts of email and messages we received.  People from Sweden, Norway, Finland, China, Japan, Mexico, Australia, UK, Germany — and several US States all sent submissions!  Also, for those of you kind enough to donate towards postage, it is extremely appreciated — you have no idea how much!  This is one of the first times I’ve ever witnessed the punk community come together on a global scale like this, and it was amazing seeing the amount of effort and love put into many of these mixes.  This is DIY culture at it’s apex, and it would be great to see more endeavors like this, even if not as a response/reaction to an adverse event such as what happened to the punks in Aceh.

Can one mixtape change the world?  Certainly not, but we personally can say that mixtapes have more than changed our lives, and we hope that this small token can show the punks in Aceh and the punks around the world that there is a global underground network ready and able to support one another.  Cheers to you all, and here’s to a new year of the punk underground!

xoxo ABSOC

Mixtapes for Aceh!

Aceh punks in detentionWe read the news about punks being apprehended and detained in the Aceh region of Indonesia recently, and like many of you, were extremely disturbed at the thought of the police sweeping these kids off the street, shaving their hair, and forcing them into some sort of bullshit military training to deprogram them.  We are privileged to live in a society where we are free to express ourselves as we wish, and while the US and other Western states have their fair share of police injustice, this incident is a harsh reminder to how good we really have it.  That is why we are starting a small initiative in solidarity with our friends overseas, to let them know that we stand behind them and fully support them.

The mixtape is a crucial part of our subculture, and is solely responsible for the spread of punk influence worldwide.  Mixtapes have introduced myself and many others to so many amazing bands, and the act of making them is one of the most sincere forms of friendship that exist in our world.  So, we are asking our friends, our community, and anyone else who remotely gives a shit to make and donate one mixtape cassette to the kids in Aceh who were forced into detention solely for being punk. It’s a small gesture, but it means a lot to people who need our support.  The content entirely of their choosing as long as it’s somewhat falling in the punk/hardcore/crust genre.  If you have an awesome tape you never listen to anymore, or would like to make a new one specifically for this endeavor, that would absolutely rule.  We are collecting these tapes to send out in early January, so your deadline to submit is December 30th, 2011.  We know that the post office is fucked right now with holiday shipping, but right after xmas it frees up largely, so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.  Please try and pack as much music onto these tapes as possible, and try to avoid sending a short 10-min long demo cassette.  This is an out-of pocket initiative for me (Rob) personally, and I’d like to make what we send as substantial as possible.  And include your address in the tape, you might just make an international buddy out of the process!

***NOTE: Please do not send t-shirts, CD’s in Jewel Cases, vinyl, or anything else outside of a mixtape or a burned CDR in an envelope.  We need all submissions to be media so we qualify for the right shipping.  If you do send shirts or anything else we can’t use we will donate them elsewhere.  We only have the bandwidth to deal with qualifying media. Thanks!***

You can send your mixtapes to our label address:

We are currently investigating the best way to get these over there safely, so if you have any specific ideas please email us and let us know.  Thanks for listening, we really encourage your participation, and hope that something like this can never happen again.

Stay strong, stay fucking punk.

Pre-Orders for AGE OF COLLAPSE – Burden of Beast LP available now!

We have just approved test pressings and will now begin accepting pre-orders for the  AGE OF COLLAPSE – Burden of Beast LP/Cassette (ABSOC 023)!  AOC have been making some waves recently and we are really excited to debut their first full-length release on ABSOC.  There will be a special edition limited to 50 copies that will include a hand-numbered silk-screened outer cover, clear vinyl, the cassette version of the release, as well as the standard jacket, mp3 download card, and printed insert that will accompany the regular pressing.

Click here to pre-order a copy in any format.

While undeniably melodic crust at it’s core, Burden of Beast, the first LP from San Diego based hardcore outfit, AGE OF COLLAPSE, traverses a very thin genre line occasionally teetering into the realms of related punk, metal, doom and more. Harsh vocals backed by crushing distortion give way to atmospheric, reverb laden interludes, which personify the bands complex, almost schizophrenic songwriting. Contempt for humanity and it’s deconstruction of the natural world gives life to a tragic landscape that plays out as the main theme of this powerful and inventive record. Recorded at Big Fish Studios by Dan Maier and mastered at Mammoth Sound by Dan Randall.

Review of NUX VOMICA – Embrace the Cycles EP by CVLT Nation!

From CVLT Nation: http://www.cvltnation.com/embrace-the-cycles-7″nux-vomica-review/

NUX VOMICA - Embrace the Cycles 7"Revolution is blowing in the air and it’s fucking getting me hyped for the change that must come soon! For too long, the voices of dissent have not been heard, but this isn’t the case right now with all the positive movements for human justice that are taking place worldwide. I can’t speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself – music has always been my lifeline to social justice. I believe that one of the major things that scared the LAPD about the punk movement in the 80′s was the fact was that our scene called them and Reagan on their bullshit, so they had to bash our heads in! Anyway, I have said it before, one of our favorite American labels is Seattle’s Aborted Society, who are have been releasing crushing positive music since 1999. Their latest release from Portland’s Nux Vomica is a raging 7″ that has me saying I want more! This record will inject your brain with 12 minutes of off-the-hook metallic crust that will leave an indelible impression on your braincells with it’s mammoth sound. Nux Vomica’s vocals are beyond outstanding for a couple of reasons, the tone of his delivery is spot fucking on, totally raw. Something about the words that this band writes are uplifting, and inspires you to look at the world/humanity for what it is really about. Their songwriting is compelling and thought-provoking, and it’s pure sonic crust fury! Without skipping a beat, this band knows the value of melody and uses it as a weapon of change. Nux Vomica’s songs sound like they are well-built ancient audio castles that have ghosts as the gatekeepers to the afterlife. The song “Embrace the Cycles” is a killer journey that has all kinds of twists and melodic detours that keep you interested from the first sounds of feedback. The other thing about this composition is that once the drums kick in, the tune transforms into this black galloping horse that can’t be tamed and gives the oppressors a ride straight to hell! I could tell you more about the other song entitled “The Two,” but I won’t, because it’s your job to head over to Aborted Society support them and Nux Vomica.

Review of AVFART 33 / INSIDIOUS PROCESS split LP by Razorcake!

http://razorcake.org/record-reviews/avfart-33–insidious-process-split

ABSOC 020 - INSIDIOUS PROCESS / AVFART - 33 Split LPAVFART 33 / INSIDIOUS PROCESS:
Split: LP

You get two anarcho bands from Sweden on this record; both are led by women and make for a good match. The record itself comes packaged in a beautifully illustrated black and white sleeve with a cardboard inner sleeve containing the lyrics. The drawing is of a girl with a pet white tiger gazing up into a window from which a silhouette of another child looks back. What this has to do with the sounds on the record is up to the listener’s interpretation, for the sounds are far less serene. Avfart 33’s first song starts out with a pretty standard galloping d-beat intro. It didn’t really grab my attention until the vocals kicked in. The fast, belted-out, high-pitched vocals is what makes this band stand out. At the same time, the band picks up the pace for some speedy hardcore. The lyrics are not printed in English, but there are some translated song summaries. Most of the songs are about smashing the state, anti-sexism, stuff like that. Insidious Process play fast, pummeling d-beat with shrieking, demonic vocals. I think that Process is definitely the all-around better band, but they, too, benefit from a furious vocalist. A few more parts and time changes to their quick, thrashy crust make a big difference. The lyrics are radically political, but most are focused on the mental health side of things, like coping with the wear on your mind when trying to fight, resist, or live outside the system.

ORDER OF THE VULTURE – Martyr For Nothing EP review by Cvlt Nation!

Posted 11/11/2011: http://www.cvltnation.com/martyr-for-nothing-order-of-the-vulturereview/

ORDER OF THE VULTURE - Martyr for Nothing EP - red vinylI love to see a label grow with each release, and build a solid foundation based on gnarly music, and the Seattle label Aborted Society Records is that kind of label. Started in 2000, they have been putting out rad releases ever since. Being that they call a city home that just has positive vibes, it’s no surprise that they are doing the right thing. One of their most recent releases is an EP by Portland’s death crust punks Order of the Vulture, entitled Martyr for Nothing. A blistering onslaught of black metallic rawness will take over your being as you listen to these three songs. Honestly, everything about the music this band conjures up is just straight on fucking point! Their demonic freedom fighter riffs are pointed at the skulls of the downpressers, whose days of power are numbered. Order of the Vulture have given their lives over to the real spirit of change, and this fact can be heard and felt in every second of Martyr for Nothing. What’s epic about their sound is that they have forged black metal and crust into their own perfect sword of sonic destruction. Yeah, you will hear the get up & go of d-beat, but you will also be creeped out by the demented blackened vocals that are spit on every track. Order of the Vulture does not sacrifice satanic melody for speed, a fact that will have your blood turning into pus as you head bang your way to hell and beyond. I’m amazed at how much fucking energy there is in their songs, and I dig the way that they incorporate eerie sound effects, making for rad audio drama. On the song “Martyr for Nothing,” they hit these pockets of rancid groove that will have your face contorting, going, damn, these motherfuckers are killing shit. The vocals on this song will draw you into a bleak mainframe, but the drumming will have your dark thoughts bouncing off the walls, and the breakdowns are spectacular! Martyr for Nothing leaves me demanding more out of Order of the Vulture, like a full length, and soon. Aborted Society Records has done it again…stay tuned, because you will be hearing more from this label on CVLT Nation very soon!
